Food Bank

Fresh Express and Elder Share Programs

In striving to provide nutritious food to our tenants and those we serve, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and the Franklin County Housing Authority have collaborated on the Fresh Express Program and the Elder Share Program.

Fresh Express Program

The Food Bank receives millions of pounds of fresh produce and dairy products from local and national donors. Since these products have a short shelf life, the Food Bank takes the perishable products directly to those who can use them.

The food is dropped off at both our Waynesboro and Chambersburg offices and distributed directly to our tenants. Depending on the harvest season, the Food Bank distributes a variety of items such as potatoes, onions, lettuce, apples, strawberries, and yogurt.

The delivery date is the last Tuesday of every month. During the summer seasons, products will be distributed in or around our maintenance sheds in Chambersburg and Waynesboro.

During the winter, Chambersburg’s program will be held in the Community Center (or the Boys and Girls Clubhouse), and Waynesboro’s program will be held in the Trinity Church close to the main office.

Any individual or family can sign up for the Fresh Express program. Registration forms can be picked up at the Chambersburg or Waynesboro main offices. Tenants are encouraged to please bring your own bags and containers in order to collect the food being distributed.

Elder Share Program

The Elder Share program is specifically designated for elderly tenants 60 years of age or older. A box is pre-prepared for distribution and the boxes are dropped off the same day that Fresh Express delivers. If you are interested in this program, registration forms can be picked up at the Chambersburg or Waynesboro main offices.
